Azalia has extensive experience in the sphere of non-profit management, private sector development, program and policy development, project management, and training and consulting services. She has participated in the implementation of a number of economic reform and development initiatives in Central Asia financed by diverse international agencies, and has worked in the sphere of international development and international banking at UN headquarters and in a number of leading US banks.
From 2000-2006, Azalia served as regional director of a component of the USAID Enterprise Development Project (EDP). From 1998-1999, she worked in the private sector development program at the UN in New York, where the agency’s work focused on establishing partnerships between the UN system and transnational corporations for the development of corporate social responsibility. Within the program, she coordinated a joint project with UNDP, the International Chamber of Commerce, and the activities of international companies, such as Shell, Statoil, and Ericsson in Venezuela, Zambia, Peru, Mexico, and Nepal.
Azalia graduated from the Kyrgyz National University and Montana State University at Bozeman through a student exchange program. She received her master’s degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York. She is fluent in English and Russian.
