NGOs will Involve Volunteers into Activities

Taldykorgan, Kazakhstan – The training on “The Role of Volunteers in the NGO Sector” was held June 15, 2015 for representatives of non-commercial organizations in Almaty oblast.

The training was conducted with the support of the NGO Expert Center at Almaty Management University (ALMA University) and the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA), as part of the “Initiative for NGO Expert Development” implemented in partnership with Chevron in Kazakhstan.

The goal of the training was to work with NGO representatives to explore effective ways to involve volunteers into NGO activities. During the training, participants learned who can be a volunteer, how to work with volunteers effectively, how to recruit volunteers to the NGOs sector, and how to train and motivate volunteers.

Today, the institute of volunteerism is developed in many countries around the world, and is becoming an increasingly significant social resource for community development. Volunteers not only gain practical knowledge, but also new skills and work experience, at the same time that they provide free services to the target groups of non-commercial organizations and participate in socially-significant activities.

“We learned a great deal about working with volunteers, including motivation, recruitment methods, evaluating the need for volunteers within an organization, and how to conduct a professional interview with volunteers. On the whole, our understanding of volunteerism has changed, which will help us in our future activities and as we develop the concept in our region,” noted Rinat Kurmayev (director of NGO “Alakol Kamkor”), training participant.

EFCA’s project “Initiative for NGO Expert Development” aims to strengthen the NGO sector by improving the institutional capacity of organizations to deliver quality services to the public. A key priority for the project is to strengthen NGO experts by increasing the quality of trainings for trainers and NGOs leaders.
